The National Highway and Transportation Administration estimates that 73–90 percent of child restraints are improperly installed. With all of the different models to choose from, choosing and installing a carseat for your baby can be overwhelming and confusing. Which is safest? What’s LATCH? How long should my baby remain rear facing and why? All of these common concerns are addressed in Carseat Safety 101. This class will cover the following:

  • An introduction to the different kinds of child restraints (infant, convertible, booster)
  • A review of Kentucky and Indiana state laws with regard to child restraints
  • Where is the safest place for my child’s carseat?
  • How to choose a carseat—factors to consider
  • Installation and safety tips (LATCH and seat belts)
  • The importance of riding rear facing
  • Safety for the other passengers in the car—seat belts, air bags and projectiles
  • How to find an installation check once your child’s seat is installed
  • Q&A session
  • Hands-on practice
